April CCRB Munch, April 9

SPRINGFIELD — Getting a little bit of a head start here, Easter is past (well passed as of tomorrow), spring is in full swing. Let get out of the gloom of winter and come out to CCRB at La Feista on April 9, Saturday, from 2 until 5. Our discussions sometimes get loud, but so far we have not been kicked out of the restaurant, not that we are trying. We have a great manager there as well as serving help.

This months discussion will follow on the same thread as have been doing. A general topic, (no I haven't decided yet) as well as the cards with words, phrases and such that help in leading the discussion n different ways.

Everyone so far has enjoyed them, or at least that is what they tell me, lol... (probably don't want to hurt my feelings).

Winery Wednesday, March 20, in Decatur

DECATUR — Howdy gang! We survived our trip on the big boat and didn't end up visiting Gilligan's Island.

Firstly, I'd like to say a big thank you to our Kitten for getting the post put up last week for us. Secondly, I want to invite everyone to come on down and join us for Winery Wednesday! Time for those wonderful burgers and phillies, nice cold beverages, and lots of laughs.

The Winery is located on the corner of W. Main and Oakland in good ol' Decatur. The dress code is your usual vanilla bar wear. Be sure to bring your cold, hard cash as the Winery doesn't accept plastic or checks. There is an ATM on site if you should need it. The fun starts around 6 and goes til the last person quits.

Words that Bind: An Erotic Literary Event at LA&M

CHICAGO - Join us for a panel reading and discussion of erotic works by six poets, fiction writers, playwrights, graphic novelists and more, exploring the intersection of sexual desire and literature representing the LGBTQQIAA spectrum. 

Panelists include: Dale Lazarov; Nikki Patin; Philip Dawkins; and others. (See bios below.)

A Q and A follows the event, with a reception in the Guest Artists Gallery featuring beer, wine and other refreshments, as well as a chance to mingle with the night's readers. Women and Children First Bookstore will also be hosting an erotic book fair pop-up with items for purchase during the reception.

Tickets: $12 general admission, $5 for museum members and students with valid ID. Event is 21+ only, and admission includes two drink tickets.

Results of the Mental & Emotional Health Study with NCSF

BALTIMORE - University of Alabama and University of Central Florida researchers surveyed over 800 kinky people recruited by the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom (NCSF) and found they were mentally and emotionally healthy.

"I was curious about the stereotypes from a mental health standpoint and we found that these kinky people are well functioning, with little mental health concerns," says Tess M. Gemberling, M.A., Co-Principal Investigator, University of Alabama. "They also have healthy romantic relationships."

The study, "Psychological Functioning and Violence Victimization and Perpetration in BDSM Practitioners from the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom," also investigated people's preferences for BDSM activities and fantasies, and explored whether violence is perpetuated against kinky people. It joins a growing body of research that refutes the stereotype that people who are kinky are inherently dangerous to themselves and others, which is at the root of the discrimination and persecution that kinky people experience.
