Fests!
Chicago Zine Fest is March 9th-10th is in various places around town including Columbia College, Quimby's, 826CHI and more. CZF is an independent event creating an outlet for small press and independent publishers to showcase their work. The goal of the fest is to make DIY zine-making accessible, highlight the talents of self-published artists, and give independent artists a chance to interact, and swap skills through tabling, community events, and workshops. We're excited to host the 2012 Spring Zine Olympics of the CZF, officiated by former Chicago alumnus Billy "Proof I Exist" Da Bunny, for this limited engagement. And! Don't forget about the CZF Punk Rock Karaoke fundraiser on Feb 3rd at The Beauty Bar at 1444 W. Chicago.CAKE, Chicago Alternative Comics Fest June 16-17th at Columbia College
This celebration of independent comics is inspired by Chicago’s rich legacy as home to many of underground and alternative comics’ most talented artists– past, present and future. There will be comics for sale, workshops, exhibitions, panel discussions and more. It's dedicated to fostering community and dialogue amongst independent artists, small presses, publishers and readers. There's a benefit to help fund it on Feb 11th, 8pm at Mortville, 2106 S Kedzie. Live performances by: Bomb Banks, Unmanned Ship, Violet Mice, Matchess (Whitney Johnson of Verma and E+), Feast of The Epiphany (Baltimore), and a live comic reading by Brainframe all-star Lyra Hill. With MCs Glucuous and his pal April Camlin. $5 suggested donation. Those who chip in the full amount will be entered into a raffle for excellent prizes provided by Quimby's.

Soundproof Future Scotland details the lives, loves and hates of 22nd century cyberdrunk hacktivist boyz Johnny Certex and Ratsoup. They spend their weekend drinking, practicing with their band, playing digigames, skarboarding, among other things. They ponder their small-town world in the center of Satellite Town, the rubbish dump where they live, in an independent Scotland, all in defiance of their crappy jobs as holographic refuse collectors. They plan to go to see their all-time fave band live, Empty Vessels, as the inescapable gravitational pull of Wavesound drags them closer to The Best Gig Ever. This book is not in print yet, so Quimby’s will have vouchers valid for digital download that will be on sale at the event. Welcome to the future!
Caseen Gaines Presents Inside Pee-Wee’s Playhouse

Calling all Pee-wee Herman fans! Inside Pee-wee’s Playhouse is the first and only behind-the-scenes look behind the hit Emmy Award-winning TV show starring the pop culture icon Pee-wee Herman, complete with over 250 rare and never-before-published full color photos, marking the show’s 25th anniversary last fall. Gaines’ book is based on interviews with over a hundred cast members, writers, producers, network executives, crew members, puppeteers, and animators who contributed to the program.
