This
Friday, the Music Box and Newcity welcome acclaimed author/director
Stephen Elliott (The Adderall
Diaries, Happy Baby) for a special
presentation of his debut film About
Cherry. Elliott, a Chicago-native, and Newcity film editor
Ray Pride will host a Q&A following a screening of the star-studded film. Regular admission and VIP tickets are on
sale now. Can’t make it Friday? Don’t worry, we have additional screenings all week!
The
Well-Digger’s Daughter is an exquisitely crafted, sun-drenched
melodrama, based on the work of Marcel Pagnol. Acclaimed French actor Daniel
Auteuil (Jean
de Florette) makes his directorial debut, playing a father who is torn
between his sense of honor and his deep love for his saintly daughter when she
gets in trouble with the wealthy son of a shopkeeper. The Hollywood
Reporter calls it “a polished, finely acted tale of love and class in the south of
France”.
This
weekend, we begin matinee screenings The
Story of Film: An Odyssey, an epic journey through the history of
world cinema. This landmark documentary begins with the invention of motion
pictures at the end of the 19th century and concludes with the multi-billion
dollar globalized digital industry of the 21st. The series will be presented in
7 parts, one part each weekend, from October 6th through
November 18th. For all you movie lovers, we’re offering a pass that gets
you into all screenings for just $35! Passes on sale now, all other tickets available at the box
office.
On
Monday, we’re celebrating the 45th anniversary of The Beatles’ Magical
Mystery Tour! For the first time ever, the film will be shown on the
big screen, in a brand new restored version, and includes some never before seen
footage and interviews. Tickets on sale now.
And don’t forget, next weekend is full of special events! On Friday the 12th, we welcome special guest Sybil Danning for a presentation of the best women-in-prison movie in the history of the world, Chained Heat.
