An Evening of Comic Books, Love and Loss, and Musical Theatre

Want to see what happens when comic books and nerds clash with life, love, and musical theatre? The newest musical, Hero, is making its debut at the Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire, IL located at 10 Marriott Drive, off of Milwaukee Ave.

The story follows aspiring comic book artist Hero Batowski. He’s 28, works in his dad’s comic book shop, and still lives at home. His mother passes away when he was young and he was never able to move on and start his life. Unexpected events strike where he endures tragedy, life, and love and Hero must finally decide to try and begin his life and search for the superhero within him (comic books in hand).

It sounds heartwarming yes but the show also has humor, dating/sex, awesome references to superheroes and other sci-fi/fantasy matter, and other hilarious and ridiculous parts. The original music is catchy and the dialogue and jokes are perfect. The actors were all great, but Hero’s cousin, Kirk, was completely goofy and insane; he made the show. He had the audience laughing from beginning to end.

Come young, come old, come nerds, this performance can be enjoyed by everyone. I saw it this evening. I have had season tickets to the Marriott Lincolnshire Theatre for over 5 years. And they always have new musicals brewing. But this one was by far the best; with such a modern day edge to it, it’ll become a popular show, I know it. So, make a trip to the suburbs to check it out.

The show goes until August 19th. You can call the box office, (847) 634-0200, to find out more information on tickets and show times. Also, visit the musical’s website, Heromusical.com, to learn more about the show. It’s fresh, it’s geeky. It’s what we like at WCB.
