Oscar Nominees Announced

The Oscar nominations were announced early this morning.

Geekdom is represented by The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo which has nominations in Best Acress (Rooney Mara), Cinematography, Film Editing, Sound Editing and Sound Mixing. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 got some love with Art Direction, Makeup and Visual Effects.

Visual Effects had the largest number of sci-fi/fantasy films with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, Hugo, Real Steel, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and Transformers: Dark of the Moon nominated. Transformers also choice The Girl in the Sound Editing and Mixing categories. Original Song has only two entries, “Man or Muppet” from The Muppets and “Real in Rio” from Rio.
