The Chicago Casual Traveler: Long Grove Historic Village, IL (Lake County)

Destination of the Day: Long Grove Historic Village, IL (Lake County)

Nestled in the northwestern suburbs, Long Grove Historic Village is a collection of mostly original or relocated buildings now beautifully restored and now housing small independent shops. Stores include: Farmside Grocery and Winery (food and local wine), Lucy and Ethel's (1950s gear and gifts), The Olive Tap (high end olive oil), and of current interest Paddy's on the Square (all things Irish). The Village Tavern and Long Grove Café & Restaurant are two of a handful on restaurants in the district. Unfortunately on a recent visit serval storefronts were found vacant, but there is still plenty for a full day visit. Nightlife is basic with weekend music at The Village Tavern
