On Saturday, May 14, Center on Halsted will host Human First, an annual gala performance supporting Center on Halsted. Comedienne Wanda Sykes and singer Linda Eder will perform at the event, held at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance in Millennium Park.
Human First honors important contributions to Chicago’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community (LGBT) by individuals, corporations and non-profit organizations. Founded because each individual, regardless of sexual orientation, physical ability, ethnic background, age, or gender, is – above all – human first, the annual celebration welcomes nearly 1,500 guests and benefits programs and services at Center on Halsted.
This year, the Human First Community Spirit Awards honor Exelon, including Exelon’s CEO John Rowe, and the Chicago History Museum. This year’s Human First Awards will honor Abby McCormick O’Neil and her husband D. Carroll Joynes. The final Human First Award honoree will be David Helverson, former member of the Center on Halsted Board of Directors and Vice President of Investments at Wells Fargo Advisors. Event Co-chairs include Kip Helverson, community leader; Jo Minow, Life Trustee, Chicago Historical Society; and David Blowers, President & CEO, Midwest Region, Northern Trust.
